Iran to inaugurate largest storage facility soon

The largest gas storage facility in the Middle East is expected to be inaugurated in Iran soon.

According to the report of the public relations of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Shourijeh gas facility, which can supply 20 million cubic meters of gas per day (MMcm/d) in winter, is to be launched in northeastern Iran.

Shourijeh gas storage facility is to increase Iran’s gas delivery capacity by 10 MMcm in the first phase. Currently 7 million cubic meters of gas per day is being injected to the facility.

A total of 340 million cubic meters of gas has already been stored in the Shourijeh storage facility.

Based on the Fifth Five-year Development Plan, gas storage facilities are in charge of providing enough gas to meet 14 percent of the country’s total consumption in cold months.

The Shourijeh gas storage facility, located at the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, has the capacity to store 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
