Iran to Open Gas Storage Facility

Iran is ready to officially inaugurate the first underground natural gas storage facility of the Middle East, Managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad owji said.

He went on to say that, as the first gas storage facility in the Middle East, Serajeh facility has stored up to now 350 to 360 million cubic meters of gas, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

He stated that after official inauguration, the facility will be able to supply at least four million cubic meters of gas to the national gas network.

On storing gas in Shorijeh gas storage facility in east of the country, Owji noted that the facility had been designed for withdrawal of 20 million cubic meters of gas per day predicting the project to be launched in early 2014.

Gas volume at Serajeh gas storage facility will climb to 1.5 billion cubic meters that could be a good cushion for winter peak consumption, managing director of Iran’s Gas Storage Company, Masoud Samivand, said.

The facility will take about seven million cubic meters of gas per day from May to November each year with the aim of yielding 10 million cubic meters of gas per day in winter.

Under the Iran Gas Storage Company’s planning, during the four cold months of each year gas withdrawal from Serajeh facility will reach 20 million cubic meters per day at the end of fifth five-year development plan in 2015.
