Japan: LNG use by power utilities down in September

LNG use by Japan’s ten independent regional electric power companies dropped 12.8 percent in September when compared to the same month in 2014.

The companies consumed 3.91 million mt of liquefied natural gas in September, preliminary data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPC) reveals.

September purchases by the ten utilities were at 4.72 million mt of LNG, down 5.5 percent from the same month in 2014.

According to FEPC, total electricity generated and purchased across the ten companies in September declined by 3.8 percent to 66.95 billion kWh.
