Japan: price of spot LNG arriving in April hits record low

Japan’s price of spot liquefied natural gas cargoes arriving in April hit a new low reaching US$5.8 per mmBtu on DES basis.

The priced dropped $1 per mmBtu during the previous month, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said in its latest report.

This is the lowest price recorded since the ministry started publishing monthly reports in March 2014.

The price of contract-based spot LNG cargoes for April was at $4.2 per mmBtu. To remind, the ministry did not reveal the price of spot-LNG contracted in March as there were less than two reporters that imported spot-LNG during the month.

Only spot LNG cargoes are taken into account in this assessments, excluding short, medium and long-term contract cargoes, as well as those linked to a particular price index.
