Japan’s First G-Type Electronically Controlled Marine Engine Delivered

Hitachi Zosen Corporation has delivered Japan’s first MAN Diesel & Turbo model G-type electronically controlled marine diesel engine, the Hitachi Zosen-MAN B&W 7G80ME-C9.2 with a maximum output of 31,150 kW x 68 min-1, to Japan Marine United Corporation.

Japan’s first G-type electronically controlled marine diesel engine, manufactured by Hitachi Zosen, represents the latest design by MAN Diesel & Turbo. Compared to the currently mainstream S-type, the G-type has a longer stroke and lower engine speed, allowing for improved propeller efficiency, and therefore reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for ships equipped with it.

Hitachi Zosen has manufactured other Japan-first electronically controlled marine diesel engines in the past: the Hitachi Zosen-MAN B&W S-ME-C in 2003, and the Hitachi Zosen-MAN B&W S-ME-B in 2012. It won the order for the recently completed G-type engine thanks to its track record and technical expertise in building ahead of its competitors the latest MAN Diesel & Turbo electronically controlled marine diesel engines. Being the only company in Japan that has licensing agreements with both MAN Diesel & Turbo and Wärtsilä Oyj Abp (Finland), Hitachi Zosen is capable of responding flexibly to shipowners’ needs.
