Japan’s first LNG tug delivered

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha informed that it has been delivered Japan’s first LNG-powered vessel, the Sakigake tugboat.

The dual-fuel vessel capable of running on liquefied natural gas or heavy oil ordered in December 2013 has been built by Keihin Dock and will be operated by Wing Maritime Service Corporation, the company said in a statement.

The launching ceremony was held at the Keihin Dock’s Oppama Shipyard.

NYK informed the LNG-powered tug will mainly serve in the ports of Yokohama and Kawasaki.

Bunkering

The Sakigake completed the first bunkering operation at the Yokohama port by a truck to ship method. The LNG has been supplied by Tokyo Gas.
