JBIC funds OBLT’s LNG carrier procurement

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation said it has signed a loan agreement in project financing up to approximately $87 million with Panama-registered Oceanic Breeze LNG Transport, a joint venture between Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and Inpex Shipping, an Inpex unit.

The loan is co-financed with Mizuho Bank and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation, bringing the overall co-financing amount approximately to $125 million, JBIC said in a statement.

The loan is intended to finance OBLT to procure the LNG tanker for transporting liquefied natural gas produced mainly from the Ichthys LNG project led by Inpex in Australia.

The loan supports the effort toward strengthening of energy value-chain by such Japanese companies from participating in LNG projects to transporting LNG, and will contribute to securing the long-term and stable supply of LNG that is increasing in importance in recent years as fuel for thermal power generation.
