Government OKs ‘Caspian Shipyard’ Project

JSC NC KazMunayGas announced that Kazakhstan government gave its positive opinion on a feasibility study for the project “Construction of the shipyard / ship repair plant in Kuryk”.

The Project, estimated to be worth around $ 288 Mln, is being implemented by JSC NC “KazMunayGas” in conjunction with the Italian company “ENI”.

The agreement on cooperation between the two companies was signed on November 5, 2009. The feasibility study and design estimates were financed by Eni that will also participate in the financing of the construction.

Domestic design companies will carry out the design works, which should be finished by December this year.

Information on the project “Caspian Shipyard”:

Shipbuilding / Shipyard will have capacity to carry out all types of repairs for different type of vessels, as well as their maintenance in an amount of up to 70 units per year. Also, the future shipyard will be capable of constructing vessels up to 15,000 tons (tankers, cargo ships, barges, support vessels). The total number of people employed in the construction of the shipyard will be about 500 while during the operation of the enterprise the shipyard will operate with up to 600 people. As a result of state examination the total project cost – $ 288 mln.
