Keel laid for Tallink’s LNG ferry

Estonia’s Tallink Grupp informed it held a keel-laying ceremony for the LNG-powered ferry Megastar at the Meyer Turku yard on Monday.

Total investment in the vessel is at €230 million and its delivery is set for the beginning of 2017, according to Tallink.

The construction of the vessel kicked off at the Finnish yard in August last year.

The 212 meters long LNG-fueled fast ferry will be able to accommodate 2800 passengers and will operate on the Tallin-Helsinki route.

Megastar will use chilled gas as fuel, but will also be able to run on marine diesel.

The vessel will comply with the new and stricter emission regulations for the ECA areas including the Baltic Sea, Tallink said.
