Klaipeda-Kursenai gas pipeline completed

Gas transmission pipeline connecting Lithuania’s liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaipeda and the town of Kursenai has been completed.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said the completed 110-kilometer pipeline provides Lithuania higher capacity to transport gas and enables the baltic states to diversify their gas supply sources.

The planned investment in the project amounted to EUR 63.7 million, however, 5% were saved during the implementation of the project.

The Klaipeda-Kursenai pipeline received EUR 27.6 million from the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility and Lithuania’s gas transmission system operator Amber Grid secured an EUR 32 million loan from the Nordic Investment Bank in August.
