Kochi LNG capacity 90 pct unutilised

Industries Minister P. K. Kunhalikutty said that nearly 90 percent of the Kochi LNG terminal is left unutilised, due to strong resistance to laying the pipeline networks through different parts of the state.

Recent incident in the Andra Pradesh district further complicated and strengthened the resistance even though the government is looking into possibilities to resolve the issue, said the minister, reports Trust of India.

“Making LNG available to various parts of the state would be a fillip to the economic growth and development in different sectors including industry and power generation,” he said.

Several options are being considered as the public gets more and more apprehensive about their safety.
