Kvaerner Completes First Johan Sverdrup Jacket

Kvaerner has completed and named riser platform (RP) jacket for the Johan Sverdrup development which will be ready for delivery in July.

The RP jacket was given the name Aegir at a ceremony held at Kvaerner’s yard at Verdal, the company informed.

The jacket is the first major structure for the Johan Sverdrup project to be completed. The gigantic 26 000 tonne jacket is the largest that has been constructed in Europe for the North Sea, and is completed according to schedule, Kvaerner said.

Kvaerner has been awarded the contract for three jackets and the utility and living quarters (ULQ) topside together with KBR for the Johan Sverdrup development.

At Kvaerner’s yard at Verdal, the work for the remaining two jackets is progressing as planned and at Kvaerner’s yard at Stord, the Johan Sverdrup ULQ topside is on schedule.

“In the true spirit of Verdal, we deliver yet again a fantastic product with the right quality and to the agreed price. The giant named Aegir is number 43 in a line of jackets delivered from the yard here at Verdal and it will soon start the journey to the field”, said Sturla Magnus, EVP Structural Solutions in Kvaerner.

The next Johan Sverdrup jacket in line for delivery from Verdal is the Drilling Platform (DP) jacket which will be completed early in 2018, followed by the Process Platform (P1) jacket to be completed during summer 2018.
