Lloyd’s Register is going to class series of four 20,150 teu container ships ordered by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) at Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

The Japanese shipping giant ordered six ultra large boxships on Monday, March 2nd. The remaining two will be built at Japan’s Imabari shipyard.

The six vessels will be launched and delivered in 2017, and will serve the Asia-Europe service.

“These are the largest ever container ships to be contracted. The evolutionary design will incorporate the latest technology for operational and environmental performance. Most of all we are delighted with the trust placed in LR by MOL to help ensure the safety and performance of these important ships,”  said Luis Benito, LR’s Marine Marketing Director.
