LNG carrier Bachir Chinani suffers failure in Greek waters

Vessels

Hyproc SC’s 129,700 cbm LNG carrier Bachir Chihani was reported adrift outside of Lesvos island, Greece, in the Easter Aegean Sea region.

Two tugs, the Alexander 3 and the Aegeon Pelagos, were dispatched to assist the vessel that developed engine problems during its return to Arzew Algeria from Eregli in Turkey, shipping data says. The ship was to be towed to Malta.

However, Turkish media reports show that after 30 hours adrift, the engine failure was brought under control.

The 1979 built vessel continued on its way to the initial destination under a speed of 5.7 knots, and with restricted maneuverability, according to the data. Both tugs are still on hand to assist.
