London Array: A Three-Year-Old Holding Records

London Array today marks three years of operation, after it was inaugurated on 4 July 2013 in Margate, Kent.

In April 2013, the London Array broke the Guinness world record by becoming the largest wind farm worldwide.

During the first full winter of generation, the offshore wind farm produced 1.5TWh of clean power. The second full year of generation has seen output from the offshore wind farm pass the 5TWh mark.

In December 2015, the wind farm’s 175 turbines generated 369,000MWh of electricity – 52,000MWh more compared to the previous best of 317,000MWh set a month earlier. The two successive months of production brought net overall output for the year to some 2,500,000MWh, enough to meet the needs of more than 600,000 UK households.

The £1.5 billion project is a joint venture by energy companies DONG Energy, E.ON and Masdar.
