Lukoil supplies LNG for Asyaport’s towing trucks

Lukoil said it has started supplying liquefied natural gas for towing vehicles used at Turkey’s Asyaport harbor.

Asyaport, which is expected to become Turkey’s biggest and Europe’s third biggest container loading-unloading harbor, recently opened up in Barbaros region of Tekirdag.

Lukoil became the LNG supplier of the towing machines used at carrying containers around the harbor, where approximately 2,5 million TEU containers per year will be loaded, the company said in an e-mailed statement to LNG World News.

Asyaport is a joint venture of MSC and Soyuer Group in Turkey and the venture’s target is to make Asyaport the “greenest” port in Turkey.

Towing Truck

In a first for Turkey, Asyaport’s 49 terminal towing vehicles will operate on liquefied natural gas instead of diesel.

Although natural gas has been used in heavy-duty vehicles before in the country, the use of LNG upon being stored and turned into gas is completely new, according to the statement.

The liquefied natural gas is being supplied from two terminals in Turkey.
