Lundin gains nod for Barents Sea appraisal well

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for an appraisal well offshore Norway. 

According to the NPD’s report on Tuesday, the well 7220/11-4 will be drilled from the Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible drilling rig.

The drilling program for the well 7220/11-4 relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 609 in the Barents Sea.

Lundin Norway is the operator with an ownership interest of 40 percent, the other licensees are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge with 30 percent and DEA Norge with 30 percent.

The area in this license consists of the blocks/part of blocks 7220/6, 7220/9, 7220/11, 7220/12 and 7221/4. The well will be drilled about two kilometers south of the Alta discovery well 7220/11-1 in production license 609.

Production license 609 was awarded in the 21st licensing round in 2011.
