Lundin gets approval for appraisal well in Barents Sea

Lundin Norway has received a permit to drill an appraisal well 7220/11-3 A in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin the permit to drill the well in production licence 609, north-west of Hammerfest.

Lundin Norway AS is the operator with 40 percent ownership share and the licensees are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS with 30 percent and RWE Dea Norge AS with 30 percent.

The well will be drilled with Island Innovator drilling rig.

The NPD notes that the production licence consists of the blocks/part of blocks 7220/6, 7220/9, 7220/11, 7220/12, and 7221/4. The production licence was awarded in the 21st licencing round in 2011.

The appraisal well 7220/11-3 A is the fifth wildcat well in production licence 609.

The NPD adds that the permit is contingent upon the operator having secured all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling starts.
