Lundin Gets Green Light for Exploration Drilling in PL 501, Offshore Norway

Lundin Norway AS has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 16/3-4 with the Bredford Dolphin mobile facility.

The well will be drilled in production licence 501 in the North Sea, 40 kilometres southwest of Grane and Balder. The shortest distance to the Norwegian coast is 140 kilometres.

The well has the coordinates N 58° 48’ 15.08”, E 02° 43’ 08.0”. The water depth at the location is 117 metres

The drilling is scheduled to start in March 2011 and will last 42 days, but could last up to 99 days if discoveries are made that warrant formation testing and drilling of a sidetrack well.

The well will be drilled with the mobile, semi-submersible Bredford Dolphin drilling facility, which is owned by Fred Olsen ASA and operated by Dolphin AS.

The facility is an Aker H-3 type. It was built in 1976 and upgraded in 2007.
