The licence area comprises parts of blocks 16/2, 3, 5 and 6. The well will be drilled approx. six kilometres southeast of the oil discovery well 16/2-6 (Avaldsnes) in the central area of the North Sea.

Production licence 501 was awarded on 17 December 2004 (APA2004). This is the seventh well to be drilled within the licence.

The drilling permit is granted on the condition that all other permits and consents required by other authorities have been secured before the drilling activity commences.
