Maersk Oil Hires Rowan California Jack-Up

Rowan Drilling has secured a new contract for its jack-up rig Rowan California in the Middle East. The drilling contractor revealed in its fleet status update for February that the rig will be hired by Maersk Oil.

The Denmark-based oil company will use the rig for drilling operations offshore Qatar. The contract is scheduled to start in August 2013 and will last until August 2016, on a dayrate of approximately $140.000.

The rig, built in 1983, has previously worked for Wintershall on a dayrate of around $70.000. It is expected to enter a shipyard in late February 2013 for repairs, upgrades and inspections.
