MMA’s engineering team has developed a number of engineered connector recovery and wellhead cap replacement components to replace the existing capping mechanisms in place on the wells located 35 km off the coast of Taranaki.

The scope includes a hydraulically actuated connector recovery system, replacement wellhead caps and a crossover and J-slot running tool.

MMA will design, analyze, manufacture and test all the equipment in-house at its UK facilities.

The Vienna-headquartered OMV acquired Shell’s Upstream business in New Zealand for $578 million back in 2018.

This includes Shell’s joint venture interests in Maui (83.75 per cent) and Pohokura (48 per cent), as well as related infrastructure for production, storage and transportation.
