MMT set for Medgaz pipeline inspection project

MMT, a Sweden-based marine surveys specialist, has entered into a contract with Medgaz in Spain for inspection of the offshore pipeline between Algeria and Spain.

MMT said on Friday that the project would be performed within the joint venture agreement signed by MMT and Reach Subsea in the summer of 2015.

The inspection work will be performed in February utilizing the vessel Edda Fonn.

The Medgaz is a 210-kilometer subsea pipeline between the town of Beni Saf in Algeria and Almería in Spain. The 24-inch diameter pipeline laid under the Mediterranean Sea at a maximum depth of 2,155 meters of water has the capacity to carry 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

It is a consortium of three international companies: Sonatrach, Cepsa, and Gas Natural Fenosa.

As far as the vessel is concerned, the Edda Fonn is a vessel used for IMR, survey, and light construction services. It is 84.7 meters long, 18 meters wide, and has a 700-square-meter aft deck. Reach Subsea hired the vessel on a 3-year contract from Østensjø Rederi in December 2014.

Reach Subsea said earlier this week it had secured a contract for the Edda Fonn vessel, with a start date in February.
