MOL Comfort's Fore Part Breaks Free from Tow

The dramatic rescue operation of MOL Comfort has faced another turn when the vessel’s fore part broke free from tow amid adverse weather conditions, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines announced.

“We are working on the recovery with 3 tugboats and will resume the towing in a west-northwest direction once the work is completed,“ MOL said in a statement.

The vessel had been unable to continue sailing under its own power since June 17 because the hull fractured into 2 parts while under way on the Indian Ocean.

After the aft part sank on June 27th several tugs were sent by the company to tow the vessel’s remaining part to safety.
