MOL names LNG newbuild for two Japanese utilities

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines on Tuesday held a naming ceremony for an LNG newbuild for Osaka Gas and Kyushu Electric Power at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The vessel, named LNG Saturn has a capacity of 153,000 cbm and will be used to transport liquefied natural gas that the two utilities mainly purchase from Ichthys project in Australia, MOL said in a statement.

According to MOL, this is the first time an LNG carrier owned by a Japanese shipping company will serve on joint transport for electric power and gas firms in Japan.

The vessel has an overall length of 288 meters and width of close to 49 meters with a draft of 11.5 meters.
