MOTCO Pier Project Awarded
The USACE, Sacramento District, awarded a $5.5 million contract to Power Engineering Construction Company on July 27 to repair and maintain operational capability at Pier 3 of the Military Ocean Terminal Concord (MOTCO).
The project will allow MOTCO to meet its mission safely and efficiently by sustaining Pier 3 operations until modernization of the main pier, Pier 2, is completed.
The Pier 3 modernization is expected to begin by the end of 2015 and continue through summer 2016.
“This has been an extensive design and planning process, and a lot of considerations and thought were put into the environmental impacts,” said Pete Broderick, senior project manager for the Corps. “The pier improvements will not only enhance the facility’s operations, but the overall safety of the installation as well.”
The project is an inter-agency effort among the Department of the Army, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, National Marine Fisheries Service and the San Francisco Bay Coastal Development Commission working together to help preserve East Bay area interests.
