MPC Container Ships Buys One More Feeder

Norwegian containership owner MPC Container Ships has signed an agreement to purchase a 2005-built feeder container vessel.

Under the deal, signed on March 9, the company said it would acquire the 1,350 TEU ship Francoise Gilot for a price of USD 6.6 million.

According to data provided by VesselsValue, the ship in question is operated by German shipping company Harmstorf Reederei.

MPC Container Ships said that the physical takeover of the vessel is expected to take place next week, expanding the company’s total fleet to 59 feeder vessels.

The carrier’s latest acquisition comes only weeks after MPC Container Ships reached an agreement to buy a fleet of 14 feeder container vessels.

The fleet, which includes vessels ranging from 1,300 TEU to 2,800 TEU, would be purchased for a total of USD 139.5 million to be settled in cash from MPC Container Ships’ existing funds.

The company earlier said it would establish wholly-owned subsidiaries to take over the ships.
