MSC Christens New Oscar-Class Giant in Le Havre

Swiss-based container carrier Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) christened the latest in a series of twenty 19,224 TEU container ships, MSC Sveva, during a ceremony held at the Port of Le Havre, France, on July 20.

The 199,272 dwt MSC SVEVA belongs to an Oscar-class of container ships which feature a length of 395.45 meters and a width of 59.08 meters, and are one of the largest sea-going vessels in the world.

MSC SVEVA will be deployed on the Asia – Europe route, according to Haropa Ports, the operator of the Port of Le Havre.

In 2011, MSC invested in a new terminal at the Port of Le Havre, operated by Haropa Ports, deciding to make the port one of its major hubs.

MSC’s new ship, MSC Meraviglia, will also be christened at the port in June next year.
