MV Spirit of Hamburg Damaged while Transiting Panama Canal

Singapore-flagged containership MV Spirit of Hamburg suffered an incident while transiting the Panama Canal on its southbound voyage, earlier this week, German carrier Hapag-Lloyd informed.

As a result the vessel has been ordered to anchor for further investigation. The crew, the vessel and all cargo on board are reported to be safe.

The company did not disclose further details on the type of the accident.

According to the latest information received from the vessel operator the extent of damage requires an immediate repair at Panama.

The repairs are estimated to last up to seven days.

Based on the vessel’s latest AIS data, the boxship is anchored off Panama Canal. The 2007-built containership is owned by German carrier Hamburg Süd.
