NASSCO delivers second LNG containership to TOTE

General Dynamics NASSCO on Friday said it has delivered the LNG-powered containership, Perla del Caribe to its owner, TOTE Maritime.

The world’s second LNG-powered containership was delivered two months ahead of schedule, according to NASSCO’s statement.

It joins its sister ship, Isla Bella, the first vessel built under a to-ship contract signed in December 2012 between General Dynamics NASSCO and TOTE.

The 764-foot long Marlin Class containerships are currently the largest dry cargo ships powered by LNG, General Dynamics NASSCO claims.

Perla del Caribe will enter service during February while the first LNG-powered containership Isla Bella has already been put into operation on the Jacksonville, Florida, San Juan, Puerto Rico route.
