New LNG story begins for Arun terminal
Indonesia’s Arun terminal, world’s first export facility that was converted to an import terminal, started its operations on March 9.
The terminal, operated by Perta Arun Gas, a unit of Pertamina Gas, received its first LNG shipment from BP’s Tangguh project on February 19, Indonesia’s regulator SKK Migas said in a statement.
According to the statement, the import terminal at Blang Lancang, Lhokseumawe region, was inaugurated by Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo in the presence of officials from the government, Pertamina and Pertamina Gas.
The first gas from the import terminal will be distributed through the Arun-Belawan pipeline this month, including to PT PLN’s power plants in North Aceh, the statement added. PLN has been allocated to get 9 LNG cargoes from the Tangguh terminal this year.
The Arun export plant sent its last cargo in October last year, marking the end of a 36 year-long career of being an export facility.
