NextDecade holds open season for Rio Bravo pipeline

The Woodlands, Texas-based NextDecade on Tuesday said the Rio Bravo Pipeline Company started a binding open season seeking firm natural gas pipeline transportation commitments for the proposed Rio Bravo pipeline.

The Rio Bravo pipeline is a 137-mile pipeline system that would provide the proposed 27 mtpa Rio Grande LNG export facility near Brownsville with feed gas.

NextDecade, led by former Shell executive Kathleen Eisbrenner, noted in its statement the proposed pipeline system would include a header system, with multiple receipt points to be located in the vicinity of the Agua Dulce market area, connected to pipelines, running to a point adjacent to the proposed Rio Grande LNG terminal.

NextDecade has already signed non-binding agreements for 26 mtpa with European and Asian customers.

At the beginning of May, the company filed applications with FRC seeking authorization to site, construct and operate Rio Grande LNG export facility and the Rio Bravo pipeline.

NextDecade expects the commission to authorize construction by the end of first quarter 2017 with first exports expected to begin by the end of 2020.
