The development of natural gas powered vehicles benefits the country and its people, and ushers in a promising future. However, the preliminary stage yet requires joint commitments from all communities in the society to advance its development.

At the forum, Mr. Zhang Yantong, director of Operation Division under the Counselors’ Office of the State Council, commented that over the course of developing new energy powered vehicles in China, natural gas powered vehicles take their unique advantages over cleanness, high efficiency, cost effectiveness, and safety, enabling them to embrace a broad development prospect.

According to the speech delivered at the forum by Mr. Li Hualin, vice-president of PetroChina Company Limited and Chairman of Kunlun Energy, the theme of this forum aims at the promotion of a healthy and sustainable development roadmap for natural gas powered vehicles, reflecting further concrete actions to create an eco-friendly society of energy-conserving type.

He also believes that the leap frog development of natural gas powered vehicles in China will definitely be realized through the joint efforts committed by governmental bodies, enterprises, related organizations and research facilities. Kunlun Energy will support and promote the development of LNG powered vehicles and safeguard the resource supply.

Mr. Shi Dinghuan, Counselor of the State Council, emphasized that the application of liquefied natural gas vehicles in China remains to be the initial stage. Such development not merely requires extensive participation and promotion from enterprises, but it also urges for the government support through macro policies as well as the relevant regulation and standardization as soon as possible.

If the application of LNG powered vehicles could supported by the favorable treatment policies designed for new energy powered vehicles on an equal basis, and enjoy the subsidized surcharges after converted from fossil fuel powered vehicles, it would be beneficial for the healthy and rapid development of LNG powered vehicles.

As at the end of 2011, the quantities of natural gas powered vehicles in China exceeded 1 million units, and the number of gas stations for different types of vehicles amounted to more than 1,500.
