Nigeria: Official Urges Government to Dredge Alagbole Waterways

The Punch reports that Mr. Julius Oloro, the Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, on Wednesday appealed to the state government to dredge the waterways in the area.

Oloro said the call became necessary because of the devastating effects of floods occasioned by the blockage of two major waterways in the community – Alagbole and County Okeira.

“The major thing we want the state government to do for us is to dredge the canals in the area. We have two major canals: the Alagbole and County-Okeira canal. The canals meet at Alagbole Bridge but they are blocked. So, whenever it rains, our area is heavily flooded.”

“I believe that if those canals can be done, we will not have problems of floods in our area. On our own, we have tried to de-silt the drains but that is not enough. We are still experiencing heavy floods,” Oloro concluded.
