Ningbo East Shipyard to Build World's First NOBS Bunker Tankers

Recently shipbuilding contracts were signed regarding the construction of two 6,500 DWT and two 4,500 DWT NOBS (Non Sea Water Ballast Ship) Bunker Tankers, the projects are united to invest by Zhejiang Huayun Shipping Co Ltd and Guangdong Zhanjiang Fuda Shipping (Fuel) Co Ltd and will be constructed by Ningbo East Shipyard Co Ltd. This symbolizes world’s first NOBS that will be born at Ningbo East Shipyard, China.

Two (2) NOBS Bunker Tankers will be registered in Singapore, Classed by BV, with GREEN SHIP(I)and EEDI(I)additional symbol, the design of which were submitted to BV Shanghai Office for approval.

The first two NOBS Bunker Tankers are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2013, the tankers will operate in Singapore and Southeast Asia, for fuel supply and transportation at sea.

XED has spent 3 years to research and invent the NOBS, and has obtained the patent rights from State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC, at present time there’s no ship models of this kind in the world. There are total 4 patented ship models of NOBS, including “NOBS Tanker”, “NOBS Chemical Carrier”, “NOBS Bulk Carrier” and “NOBS Container Ship”

As one of the NOBS Tanker series, the 6,500 DWT and 4,500 DWT NOBS Bunker Tanker can effectively avoid IMO’S BWM and IMO’S PSPC, at the same time the moulded lines of upper U shape and bottom V shape can greatly reduce the resistance. Compared with traditional ships, they have good performance at saving building cost, saving operation cost, saving repairing cost and at ocean environment protection. Besides, their good performance will lay a good foundation for the ships to better adapt to the future compulsory implementation of IMO’s EEDI and SEEMP starting effectively on Jan 01, 2013.
