NITC Back at INTERTANKO

The National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) has been readmitted to the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO) as a full member, the country’s news agency IRNA informed.

The decision is reported to had been delivered in a letter from INTERTANKO Chairman Nikolas Tsakos to NITC Managing Director Ali-Akber Safaei.

The move comes in the wake of lifting sanctions against Iran as the country met all the requirements to curb its disputed nuclear program. The move has seen numerous international delegations flocking to Tehran with the aim of striking energy and trade deals.

NITC’s return to the association comes after nine years of cooperation suspension.

Separately, Tehran has been busy with issuing claims for unpaid dues for oil which were put on hold due to the sanctions. Namely, Iran has asked India to clear its past oil dues amounting to over EUR 6 billion within six months.

Indian Oil Corp (IOC), which owes over $400 million to Iran, may be the second in the queue followed by smaller payments by HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp, NITC said.
