Nord Stream delivers 200 bln cubic meters of gas to Germany

Russian giant Gazprom said the Nord Stream gas pipeline transmitted its 200 billionth cubic meter of gas from Russia to Germany via the Greifswald delivery point.

Nord Stream is the export gas pipeline with the annual design capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas running from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea.

The pipeline is operated by the Nord Stream, a joint venture between Gazprom (51 percent), Wintershall Holding and E.ON (15.5 percent each), and Gasunie and Engie (9 percent each). The first string of Nord Stream was put into service in November 2011 and the second in October 2012.

Gazprom’s head, Alexey Miller, said the company is now developing a similar project, Nord Stream 2, with the active support of European energy companies. In accordance with the plan, the new gas pipeline will be built by the end of 2019.

The project will also have the annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea.
