Nordic LNG: Nordic Paper Chooses Natural Gas (Norway)

Nordic Paper, the world’s largest manufacturer of greaseproof paper, has decided to choose natural gas to produce thermal energy (approx. 100 GW) for its factory at Greåker, Sarpsborg.

In recent years, energy carriers have been heavy oil/waste oil and at times electrical power.

Natural gas was chosen after careful evaluation of, among other things, bio-fuel.

Important parameters in the evaluation have been the reduction of CO2 and NOx emissions, delivery reliability and price,” says Per Knatterød (Director of purchasing/logistics at Nordic Paper).

Nordic Paper will have its natural gas delivered via tank trucks from Fredrikstad.

The Nordic Paper factory in Sarpsborg is located only 13 km from the new LNG reloading terminal that Skangass (Nordic LNG’s owner) will complete this summer in Fredrikstad.

At the factory, the liquid natural gas (LNG) will be regasified before being piped into the production at Nordic Paper.

Nordic LNG will build and operate a LNG tank and regasification unit at Nordic Paper and deliveries are planned to start in the first quarter of 2012.
