Noreco Gets Go-Ahead to Drill with West Alpha Rig Off Norway


Norwegian Energy Company ASA (Noreco) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the North Sea with the mobile installation West Alpha.

The well is part of production licence 545 and is located approx. 110 kilometres southwest of Haugesund.

Well 17/6-1 has the following geographical coordinates:

North 58º 44′ 15.461″, East 3º 55′ 34.931″. Water depth at the location is approx. 272 metres.

Planned start-up of drilling is in September/October 2010. The activity has an expected duration of 45 days.

West Alpha is a “Dyvi Drilling Ultra Yatzy” semi-submersible mobile drilling installation built in 1986.

The installation, which is owned and operated by Seadrill Offshore AS, received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in December 2001.
