Normandie 3 Project Nears Completion

Jersey Electricity has informed that its 10-year project to install a third interconnector to France and adjoining land cables is now almost complete.

After a long and complex planning process, this year has seen the safe and successful installation of the 32km, 100MW subsea cable from Armanville to Gorey, the 19km French land cable from the coast to Périers and the Jersey land cable from Gorey to South Hill Switching Station at Mount Bingham.

An engineering project of this scale has presented Jersey Electricity and contract partners Prysmian Powerlink, who manufactured and installed the cable, and local civil works contractors in Jersey, Jayen Ltd., with many technical and organisational challenges. It is a credit to all concerned that the project as whole remains on budget and ahead of schedule.

Though the power cable installation is mostly complete, some works are still on-going in the area of Green Road and Gréve D’Azette. Works will continue in this area for several more days.

Testing and commissioning of the cables and the system as a whole will start over the coming weeks and it’s expected for the cable to be in full service before the end of the year, ahead of schedule.
