Northern Offshore delays Rosneft rig deal

Offshore drilling contractor Northern Offshore has agreed to postpone a rig contract with Russian oil giant Rosneft.

In its announcement, Northern Offshore said that the contract for the Energy Endeavour jack-up rig would be delayed until May 2015.

The original agreement for the rig was signed in July. Under the deal, the contract would be for two and a half years and would cost Rosneft approximately $150 million.

While it said it would remain committed to the Rosneft deal, Northern Offshore added it would market the rig to other potential clients, once the rig’s current contract is complete.

The Energy Endeavour is currently operating for Wintershall, in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.

Northern Offshore did not reply to an e-mail sent by Offshore Energy Today, seeking more information into the reasons behind the rig contract delay.
