Norway: Eni’s Marulk Field Comes On Stream

Eni, an Italian multinational oil and gas company has started production from the Marulk field in the Norwegian Sea,  located about 80 km from the coast.

The Marulk offshore field is the first ever field that Eni has directly operated in Norway and is part of the PL122 license held by Eni (20%) with Statoil (50%) and DONG (30%).

Marulk is a gas and condensate field, with estimated reserves of 74.7 million barrels of oil equivalent, and produces 20,000 boe/d, 4,000 of which belong to Eni. Its subsea production system is connected to the Norne FPSO via 30km long pipeline.

The field, whose Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) has been approved by the Ministry of Oil and Energy in July 2010, has been developed through a “fast-track” development project in less than two years.

Eni has been present in Norway since 1965 where it now produces about 135,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

“Marulk” is Norwegian for the angler fish, Lophius piscatorius, a predatory fish species and member of the monkfish family. It is a typical bottom-feeder and inhabits waters from the coastline down to 2000 metres depth.
