Norwegian Pearl Passenger Falls Overboard, Search Underway

The United States Coast Guard is searching for an unidentified woman who fell from a Norwegian Cruise Line’s cruise ship on Thursday, 22 nautical miles off the coast of Cuba, the Coast Guard said.

“Watchstanders at Coast Guard 7th District command center received the initial report at approximately 7 p.m. from crew of the Norwegian Pearl stating that a woman had fallen from the deck of the ship,” the Coast Guard informed.

The Coast Guard Cutter Alligator and an aircrew aboard a C-130 from Air Station Clearwater are en route to assist in the search for the woman.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, during a chartered cruise on Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel. The ship’s crew immediately initiated rescue measures, including deploying three rescue boats and notifying the Coast Guard and other relevant authorities. The search for the guest is ongoing,” the company said in an emailed statement.

The 2006-built Norwegian Pearl, a Jewel class cruise ship of Norwegian Cruise Line, was  en route for Cozumel, a Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea when the incident was reported. The ship took off from Miami on Wednesday, November 11.
