Nova Scotia Minister Approves Goldboro LNG Project

Nova Scotia Environment Minister Randy Delorey has approved Pieridae Energy’s Goldboro LNG project.

The approval follows recommendations by the panel appointed for the class two environmental assessment, the province’s most stringent environmental review process.

“I thank the panel members for their work on this project and their service to Nova Scotians,” said Delorey. “Based on their report and a review by department staff, I am confident any potential environmental issues can be addressed and the economic benefits of this project can be realized.”

There are 40 conditions in the approval that address wetlands, potential impacts on wildlife, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Pieridae Energy must now obtain industrial approvals from the Department of Environment for various elements of the plant’s operation, and must also obtain approval for the project from the Utility and Review Board.

The Golboro facility will have a capacity to receive, liquefy and export nominal 10 million tonnes of natural gas per annum (Mtpa).

The on-site gross storage capacity for LNG will be approximately 690,000 m3 in three 230,000 m3 tanks.
