Obama, Modi shake hands on Cove Point LNG

US president Barack Obama met with Indian PM Narendra Modi in a first bilateral meeting between the two.

Among other topics discussed, Modi and Obama have shaken hands on the construction of a new LNG plant that is to ship the chilled gas to India, according to the state-owned natural gas utility GAIL.

“The wheels are already in motion as the final approval to build the east coast’s first ever LNG plant at the Cove Point site on the Chesapeake Bay has come through,” said the company.

GAIL has already secured 40 percent of the capacity for 20 years and has also issued a tender inviting for time charter hiring of LNG vessels to transport LNG from the US to India.
