Offshore safety authority probes electrical installations on Wintershall’s Brage

Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has found several irregularities in the way oil company Wintershall is dealing with electrical installations on the Brage field, offshore Norway.

PSA’s audit, carried out from April 13 to 22, 2016, focused on determining whether Wintershall is complying with the regulations relating to working in and operating electrical installations on the field.

The audit gave special emphasis to how Wintershall manages responsibilities and duties of the personnel responsible for electrical plant during its design engineering, operation, modification and maintenance.

Irregularities found during the audit were related to work in and operation of electrical installations, the electrical installations, technical conditions, electro-technical system analyses, emergency lighting and maintenance management.

PSA Norway further noted that improvement points were identified in relation to temporary equipment, heating cable installations and non-conformity handling.

Wintershall has been given a deadline of June 22, 2016 to report on how the non-conformities and improvement points will be dealt with.
