Offshore Wind to Drive UK’s Economic Development

The Yorkshire Post has gathered all the important numbers concerning the UK’s offshore wind industry, concluding that today’s apprentices are in a position to be a part of the energy sector that will assume lead in the country’s future economy.

Namely, the UK targets to produce 33GW of electricity from wind power by 2020, 18GW of which will come from offshore wind farms.

When compared to the current production of 6GW from 568 offshore wind turbines, this industry will bring significant economic contribution and great number of working positions in its further development.

Precisely, it is estimated that the construction of offshore wind farms by 2022 will raise approximately GBP 14 billion for the UK Treasury, adding around GBP 60 billion to the country’s overall economy.

Also, it is predicted that in that period 45,000 long-term working positions will be created.
