OMV to Use Leiv Eiriksson in PL 537 (Norway)

OMV (Norge) as has received consent to conduct exploration drilling of wells 7324/7-1 S and 7324/8-1 in production licence 537 in the Barents Sea.

Leiv Eiriksson mobile drilling rig will be used for these drilling operation.

Water depth at the site is up to 440 metres.

The planned start-up is July 2013, with a duration of 73 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

Leiv Eiriksson was completed in 2001 as a fifth-generation semi-submersible drilling unit built to the Bingo 9000 design. This rig is currently equipped for drilling operations in water depths down to 7 500 feet, but can be upgraded to 10 000 feet – the same depth capability as its sister vessel Eirik Raude. Leiv Eiriksson has operated successfully in water depths exceeding 7 000 feet off Angola.

The rig remains stable in harsh weather owing to its superior motion characteristics and advanced dynamic positioning systems.
