One More LNG Carrier for Daewoo Shipbuilding

One More LNG Carrier for Daewoo Shipbuilding

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., (DSME) of South Korea is continuing to lead the way in LNG newbuilding sector with the latest order for a 173,400 cbm LNG carrier.

The contract, signed with an American customer, is estimated to be worth around $200 million. The order is related to an exercised option, which was attached to a contract awarded in late July, reports Asiasis.

The newbuild will be constructed with the M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) engine, which is significantly more fuel-efficient and has lower emission levels than other engines currently being utilized in LNG shipping.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in early 2017.
