Ouhua Shipbuilding Christens Two for China Navigation

On the afternoon of March 13, 2013, the christening ceremony for HN 637 and HN 638 hull numbered vessels, pertaining to MPV31 series of multipurpose containers, built by Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for China Navigation, was held at the Shipyard’s Quay No. 3.

The event was attended by all directors and site team led by Mr. Barnaby Swire, the chairman of China Navigation, surveyors of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping based in Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding, along with other high dignitaries and employees of the company.

Mr. Shen Zhihua, the company’s vice president, delivered a speech, saying that the shipbuilding contract for the 8 MPV31 vessels was signed between China Navigation and Ouhua, marking the official kick off of cooperation between the two companies.

“During the entire construction period, we were deeply inspired by the corporate culture and technical competence of CNCO, especially with regard to the precise working style and highly responsible attitude by the team of China Navigation. Great progress has been achieved on the entire project, implemented due to mutual understanding and win-win spirit, which has flagged the cooperation with remarkable success,” Mr. Zhihua said, expressing willingness for continuation of mutual cooperation.

Mr. Barnaby Swire, the chairman of China Navigation, indicated in his speech that HN 637 and HN 638 were respectively the 201st and 202nd new buildings of China Navigation, as well as the first and the second vessel from the MPV31 multipurpose container series of vessels, stressing that they would be the standard for the future multipurpose vessels.

Afterwards, Mrs. Helen Leigh – Pemberton, the godmother of HN 637, and Mrs. Jennifer Kendall, the godmother of HN 638, named the vessels SHANSI and SHANTUNG respectively.
